L4D Zombies – be scared!

Gamers Notebooks

Released in November 2008, Left 4 Dead has proven to be one of the biggest hits for Valve since CSS servers, eclipsing Team Fortress 2 servers in the popularity contests.

Left 4 Dead game servers have two main types of gameplay. Campaign or mission based, where you can team up with buddies and work through a series of maps and objectives. Also, and more popular is versus mode, versus mode splits up players into two teams of four, the Survivors and the zombies. Survivors take on the roll of complete the L4D campaigns. The zombies role is to hunt out the humans using zombies such as the Tank, Smoker, Hunter and Boomer.

Apart from the boss zombies, there are normal computer ran infected. They are most like the zombies off the movie 28 Days Later, but don’t let this lull you in to a false sense of security as their strength lies in numbers and can be found in coupes of several dozen and known as hordes. Attracted by the slightest sound or flash light (don’t set off car alarms), these zombies will bust through walls and doors to eat you!

We then move on to the uncommon infected which you will meet less often by strategically placed throughout the game to keep you and your buddies on your toes.

The witch normally only appears a couple of times for each campaign and is normally passive provided you don’t disturb her with your flash light or loud noises or just being too close to her. She can is normally found slightly off the normal path but not too far to not be found by accident but if I were you I still would not go looking for trouble.

As mentioned in versus mode, there are several zombies that you can play as. The boomer likes to vomit special bile at the survivors which temporarily blinds you and attracts the common infected to your location! Thus it is well worth keeping your distance from him and his vommit. With slow moment and low health you can pick him off, but when he is killed he will explode covering any survivors close enough to cover them in bile as well.

In terms of how fast he’ll run at you, the hunter is quite like the fast zombie known from Half Life 2. They do not look quite so zombie like, just more like your local chav from the street corner but just as dangerous! He is quick and agile and will climb a wall with ease. He will pounce and pin down survivors until death like a cat, unless another survivor knocks him off. They also don’t have much health and so don’t take much to take down.

The sneaky smoker ambushes his victims with his long tongue. Similar to the barnacle in Half Life 2, another survivor must free you once you are caught.   In addition, they choke their victim with a smoke, impairing their vision. They will cough frequently to let you know of their presence in an area.

It would be wise to master the Tank before you move onto Left 4 Dead 2 servers. . You need to play Left 4 Dead 2 to understand the immense power of the Tank!
